WA champion Dustin Higgs ready to mix it with heavy hitters as Albany hosts national super sedan title

WA champion and fancied title contender Dustin Higgs says winning his first Australian crown in Albany this weekend would be something he’d long cherish. Higgs is part of a strong WA contingent that will tackle a quality list of interstate competitors at the 2024 Speedway Sedans Australia National Super Sedan Title. The title is being held at Albany’s Attwell Park Speedway for the third time in history and Higgs is primed for another assault on the elusive national crown. “I’m super pumped for the title, it’s been a long time waiting for this weekend,” he said. “We are very confident with our car speed to match the east coast cars especially with our recent lap times around Albany. “The car has been prepped well with a few small tweaks and a reset to gain a little more car speed for the Attwell Park surface.” The 52nd running of the title has attracted 30 entries, including six Queenslanders, two Victorian’s and one South Australian. Defending national champion Trent Wilson from Queensland will headline the field while heavy hitters and four-time champions Darren Kane and Matt Pascoe will also be stiff competition for Higgs. The 34-year-old has enjoyed success in Albany in recent times and said he was hoping to match it with some of the best in Australia. “We’ve had great success at Albany over the last few seasons, winning seven of my last eight races there,” Higgs said. “It will definitely help having a lot of laps under my belt and a fast car. “It would be great to keep the A1 in WA having only been won twice by West Australian’s, but my main goal is enjoying quality racing with the fastest guys in the country and enjoying the ride.” Higgs has contested four national titles previously, his best finish being a top-five result. He also has two top-10 finishes to his name and in his other attempt his campaign ended on the first lap of the opening heat. Practise will be held on Friday night before heat racing on Saturday night and then the remaining heats and finals on Sunday night.
