The sounds of bouncing basketballs and roaring crowds filled the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre on Saturday night as hundreds of fans packed the grandstands for an NBL1 West double header.
The Perth Redbacks and Perry Lakes Hawks battled it out in both the women’s and men’s games, delivering a night of high energy basketball for local fans.
Iconic and upbeat songs, the loud chanting of “defence” and cheering could be heard by everyone whether they were in the gymnasium or around the premises of ALAC.
The Redbacks claimed victory in the men’s with Isaac Etter named player of the match, while the Hawks claimed the win earlier in the women’s game and the player of the match was Patty Brossmann.
The half-time entertainment was a crowd-pleaser with people chosen from the crowd to try their hand at a half-court shot to win a sum of cash — many failed, however one young lad succeeded and sent the crowd into an excited frenzy.
Along with half-court shots, there was plenty of side entertainment for the kids including face painting and a McDonald’s spin the wheel challenge with prizes that proved highly popular throughout the night.
Food vans were another crowd favourite with many families enjoying a range of cuisines while taking in the State-level basketball action.
