Qantas’ direct Perth to Paris flight temporarily axed as airline makes changes to Europe routes amid Iran war
Qantas has made major changes to some of its most popular international routes as demand for flights to Europe soar amid the Iran war.
The nation’s biggest airline has temporarily redirected its direct Perth to Paris flight in its most drastic change, instead choosing to depart from Sydney and transit through Singapore.
The new route will now be flown five times a week - an increase from the usual three - and will enable an additional 60 passengers to travel to Europe on each flight.
However, in great news for Perth travellers, Qantas has increased its Perth to Rome flights, now flying daily instead of four times a week.
Perth to Singapore flights will also increase from a once daily service to 10 flights per week, timed to connect with Qantas’ Singapore to Paris flights.
Qantas will continue to operate its daily Perth to London service via Singapore, while the return London to Perth flight will operate direct.
The airline said the changes were a direct response to the ongoing repercussions of the conflict in the Middle East and its impact on global air travel.
“Qantas is adjusting its international schedule to redeploy some aircraft to operate more flights between Australia and Europe, in response to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and very strong demand,” the airline said.
The updated schedule will come into effect progressively for flights from mid April and run until late July.
The adjustments have been made possible by reallocating several Boeing 787 aircraft from US routes and shifting some A330s from domestic services to international operations.
The airline said it is contacting all customers affected by the schedule changes and providing them with alternative flights within 24 hours of their original departure time, or the option of a refund.
Qantas added that it is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East, particularly the potential impacts on fuel security, global fuel prices and travel demand, and will make further changes to its schedule if required.
