Specialist polar expedition line Ponant Explorations has more than 35 departures to the world’s most remote reaches in the Arctic, scheduled across the northern summer of 2028.
Ponant’s expanded program has a choice of itineraries operating between May and October 2028 on four vessels in the region. Destinations include:
Geographic North Pole (June to September 2028)
Explore the northern tip of the world aboard the world’s only luxury icebreaker — Le Commandant Charcot — the only ship of its kind capable of reaching 90 degrees north.
The 18-night voyage sails through pack ice and along the fjords and glaciers of Svalbard, and combines a visit to the North Pole and two exclusive stops in northern Greenland.
Greenland, the Baffin Sea and the Northwest Passage (May to August 2028)
There are visits to remote and rarely visited polar regions, including some voyages aboard Le Commandant Charcot. Among the destination highlights are the Thule region and Disko Bay, claimed to have the biggest icebergs in the northern hemisphere; encounters with Inuit communities in their villages; and possible sightings of wildlife like polar bears and whales.
Svalbard (June to July 2028)
Spitsbergen is the main island of the Svalbard archipelago, from which there are a range of itineraries to explore its stark and rugged beauty, including the classic seven-night highlights voyage in June. The full circumnavigation in July has access to the protected nature reserves of north-east and south-east Svalbard. There are wildlife spotting opportunities throughout which may include polar bears and whales, as well as reindeer, arctic foxes, walruses and seabirds.
The history of Svalbard for its geology, coal mining, its pioneering explorers and today its role in environmental science research is fascinating, and brought to life by Ponant’s expert team of naturalist guides and bridge crews.
Iceland (June to July 2028)
Itineraries are exclusively Iceland with visits to the islands of Grimsey and Heimaey with one included excursion per person, per day. Explore Reykjavik over a full day as well as Iceland’s landscapes such as fjords, volcanic plateaus, basalt columns, geysers and waterfalls, and its array of wildlife.
North America (August to October 2028)
The itinerary features UNESCO World Heritage sites L’Anse aux Meadows, Quebec, Lunenburg and Gros Morne National Park; and stopover in stunning Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Montreal.
Ponant’s Serenity Policy applies for new bookings made until August 31, 2026 allowing a cruise to be modified or postponed free of charge to a departure within the same year or earlier.
