When the privately owned Broome Explorer Bus Service stopped running last August because it just wasn’t financially viable, the WA Government stepped in to use taxpayers’ money to provide a temporary town bus service.

TransBroome services expanded to take in the Broome Explorer Bus route between Cable Beach, Chinatown and Town Beach.

It is not only important to residents — but to visitors to Broome who haven’t rented a car. The town is “split in to halves” and pretty spread out.

It is now revealed people have been consistently using the service, with up to 24 passengers a trip on average during peak times.

And the State Government has now locked in funding for the service for the next four years.

+ The service will be expanded to include Broome Airport, more of Cable Beach, Roebuck Estate and Broome North.

+ Services will be increased during the peak tourist season.

+ New ticketing systems will allow SmartRider and bank card payment.
