VideoThe AFL has released its 2027 fixture featuring significant changes including the removal of opening round, with Sydney and Geelong now starting the season on a Wednesday night at the SCG.

Trent Rivers will keep his No.24 - and inherit one of West Coast’s most revered jumper numbers - when he runs out for his new club next season.

The Melbourne recruit was on Thursday confirmed to have secured his number of choice, which he sported in all 140 matches of his Demons career.

It means he takes carriage of the famous number worn by dual premiership captain John Worsfold. It was most recently worn by Harvey Johnston across 14 matches before he was delisted.

Jack Viney will take over the No.15 vacated by retired forward Jamie Cripps next season. Viney wore No.7 in all of his 238 games at Melbourne, but that number belongs to Reuben Ginbey at the Eagles.

It comes as Marcus Herbert upgraded his No.51 following an impressive debut campaign as a mid-season recruit.

Herbert will sport No.30 next year. That number hasn’t been worn in an Eagles game for more than two years, following Harry Barnett’s most recent appearance.
