West Coast boss Trevor Nisbett says Eagles supertstar Nic Naitanui has ‘more than one year left in him’

West Coast ruckman Nic Naitanui is set to ink a fresh two-year deal at the Eagles to end his career at the club and possibly even gravitate into a ruck coaching role. But the future of forward Junior Rioli remains unclear as Rioli and his management weigh interest from interstate clubs including Port Adelaide and North Melbourne. And as many as 10 West Coast players may not know their futures until the trade period as West Coast assesses interest and trade options before making final calls. Many still have WAFL commitments against Claremont this weekend. Naitanui, 32, who had clean-up surgery recently on a knee problem, was “a fair way down the track” with the club on a two-year deal” club CEO Trevor Nisbett said. “We just believe he has got more than one year left in him,” he said. Naitanui was tapped out of the season after the round 22 clash with Fremantle when he was dominated by Dockers ruckman Sean Darcy who won the Glendinning Allan Medal. He has played 213 games but just eight this season before the clean-up surgery on a knee. “The surgery has certainly helped and things are progressing pretty well. We are pretty comfortable,” Nisbett said. “The surgery was on the other knee and not the knee he hurt this year. It was just a bit of a clean up and we are very happy with the way he is progressing.” Rioli is being aggressively pursued by Port Adelaide and has also attracted some interest from North Melbourne. The out-of-contract forward is 27, played 13 games and kicked 14 goals this season coming back from a two-year ban for a breach of the WADA code. Nisbett said several players would not know whether they would keep their spots on the list until trade options had been considered. “We have got time up our sleeve and we will probably go through the trade period before we go through a lot of de-listings,” he said. “There is a lot to work through. When you are in our position you need to work through your list.” “I think there is probably be about 10 players (unsure). Once we can speak to all of the other clubs we will get a perspective on where we are at, whether there is interest in some of our players or some of our players might come to us and tell us they would like to look around.”
