A week of celebration for West Coast star Reuben Ginbey has ended in heartache, with the star defender injuring his quad in the third quarter of their loss to Port Adelaide.
Ginbey punched the ground in anger as he hit the Optus Stadium turf after he suffered the blow chasing Power forward Mitch Georgiades on Saturday night.

The defensive ace came straight from the ground with a limp and was consoled by teammates Elliot Yeo and Willem Duursma on the boundary line before immediately heading to the rooms.

He reappeared to join the three-quarter time huddle and sit on the bench, donning a tracksuit and being supported by club staff.
It came only days after the Eagles announced Ginbey had signed a three-year contract extension to remain at the club until the end of 2030.
The 21-year-old had been lauded in the lead up to the revelation after his stellar performance in the Eagles’ 30 point win against Essendon, when he beat Bombers forward Nate Caddy.
It led to calls for Ginbey to be considered in the All-Australian side as he backed up a breakthrough 2025 season, when he finished second to co-captain Liam Baker in the John Worsfold Medal.

Ginbey was winning the battle against Georgiades until he suffered the serious looking injury, having held the Power star to a solitary point until that moment.
The big defender gave chase to stop the forward from kicking an over-the-back goal, but his effort was in vain before he suffered the setback.

Ginbey’s absence will further hurt the Eagles’ defensive stocks, with 200cm key defender Harry Edwards already sidelined with a concussion and his return still uncertain.
Ginbey hasn’t missed an AFL game since his debut campaign in 2023, reeling off 59 consecutive matches. He has been the sole West Coast player to have lined up in every game of the Andrew McQualter era.
It comes as they prepare to take on North Melbourne at Optus Stadium next Saturday, with the Kangaroos coming off a three-figure thrashing against Fremantle down in Bunbury earlier on Saturday.
