WAFL 2025: West Perth skipper Luke Meadows to miss the rest of the season after undergoing foot surgery

West Perth captain Luke Meadows has been ruled out for the season after having foot surgery last week in a massive blow to the Falcons’ slim hopes of playing finals. Meadows ripped several tendons in his foot in the WA Day derby defeat to East Perth, forcing the Simpson Medallist to go under the knife with the plan for him to return early next year. The Falcons sit three wins outside of the top five at the mid-point of the season and have a favourable next month with three of their next four games at home — with all of the Joondalup clashes against teams also in the bottom half of the ladder. First they must face a rampaging Claremont who are only getting stronger with former Essendon and West Coast forward Alec Waterman and one-time Fremantle speedster Joel Western named in the side to take on the Falcons at Revo Fitness Stadium on Saturday. Former Brisbane rookie Kalin Lane will also play his first game of the season as he recovers from a knee reconstruction, having been named in the reserves. Captain Declan Mountford (shoulder) and reigning Sandover medallist Callan England (ankle) are set to return in the next few weeks for the Tigers. Ben Johnson — a former West Coast defender — has been named for West Perth at the expense of Sandon Page, who has been omitted. East Fremantle will be without premiership midfielder Harry Marsh for at least a couple of more weeks with a hamstring injury he picked up against West Perth before the bye. Michael Tassone has been named as his replacement for their clash against Swan Districts at The Good Grocer Park on Saturday. The Swans have swung the axe, dropping Troy Yukich, Anthony Stephens and Luke Cotellessa in favour of Brodyn Fitzgerald, Otis Harvey and Tom Smith. Subiaco will unveil debutant Sonny Siano for their clash against East Perth at Sullivan Logistics Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Siano is joined by Jarrod Richards, who will play his fifth game for the Lions, with Judd Kelman and Ben Golding both omitted. The Royals have made only one change with Jonah Brooks coming in for Will Cassidy as co-captain and Sandover medallist Hamish Brayshaw prepares to celebrate his 100th game. Peel Thunder have been boosted with the inclusion of four Fremantle-listed players in Oscar McDonald, Jaeger O’Meara, Brandon Walker and Michael Walters for their game against unchanged ladder-leaders South Fremantle down in Mandurah.
