WA young gun Mitch Georgiades was rewarded for his eye-catching performance on Thursday night with a rising star nomination.

The Subiaco and Hale School product starred in Port Adelaide’s big win over Melbourne at the Gabba, booting three goals and taking a huge pack mark in front of Max Gawn and Charlie Dixon in the final term.

In just his third AFL appearance, the high-flying forward was one of the Power’s best, receiving a couple of AFL Coaches’ Association votes in the process.

The son of former Footscray and Subi forward John was selected with pick 18 in last year’s national draft, despite not playing a game that season due to a nasty quad injury.

The 18-year-old made his debut in the opening-round win over the Gold Coast after a strong pre-season, kicking two goals in an exciting display.

He was unavailable for selection the following match due to calf soreness and couldn’t force his way back into the in-form side until round eight against St Kilda.

Georgiades will have little time to reflect on his nomination ahead of the ladder-leading Port’s next match against the Western Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval tonight.

A season-ending injury to Suns ace Matt Rowell has thrown the rising star race wide open.

Round eight nominee, Fremantle midfield bull Caleb Serong, is climbing up the rankings with a strong fortnight against Geelong and Collingwood respectively.

The Dockers have had two nominees with Serong joining second-year forward Sam Sturt.

More to come.
