With rain during the week it is likely to be soft going at the Sunshine Coast and whilst all horses get their chance on the big track with the rail out six metres riders will be heading to the crown in the straight looking for the fast lanes.

It always pays to follow the local trainers and whilst Stuart Kendrick has been in fine form at recent meetings I am looking for Natalie McCall to have a good day.

Race 1- Class 4 Handicap 1300m

A small field looks ideal for JAKAMA (4) which was only run down late when resuming at Ipswich, improves second-up and has won here previously. With a 3kg claim for Angela Jones he is well weighted and can lead throughout.

BONAPARTE (3) is now third-up and Stuart Kendrick has engaged Ryan Maloney indicating he is ready to fire. He isn’t one that wins out of turn but has scored twice here previously and will get all the favours from the inside gate.

SHADOW OF TIME (1) hasn’t won for 75 weeks but will find this easier than Saturday grade. He placed behind Noosa Cup winner Modelka two starts back and gets in well with Zac Lloyd’s 3kg claim.

KAAYDEH (5) has been racing well up North and did win a Class 1 here three starts back when trained by Chris Anderson. She is now shooting for four on end and could make her presence felt.

Betting Strategy- BONAPARTE (3) the one to beat but I question his will to win.

Race 2- Class 1 Plate 1000m

No stars here but the interesting one is TURNSTAR (11) which was formerly trained by Hawkes Racing but is now with Lee Freedman and resumes without a trial. A Newcastle maiden winner he placed at two of his past three starts in Victoria and if ready would be up to this class. With winkers replacing blinkers and Ryan Maloney to ride watch for support.

Another Southern import with upside is TICKLER (7) which was narrowly beaten here when resuming and having his first start for Ryan Tyrell. Ryan Wiggins stays on and from a good gate he will be hard to run down.

ALLEZ ZOU (1) is first-up for Billy Healey and has benefited from a recent trial. He won his maiden here last preparation and with Jim Orman from gate one will give them something to think about.

FITY FOUR SQUARES (9) came from a wide gate to win a Maiden comfortably here over this trip last start. This is harder and she is drawn poorly again but Mark Du Plessis stays on and Natalie McCall horses always go best on their home track.

Betting Strategy- Will watch TURNSTAR (11) with interest but unlikely to bet.

Race 3- 0-62 Handicap 1200m

Natalie McCall has a good strike on her home track and can get them ready fresh. MAESTOSO (8) has won two of eight starts including her Maiden when on debut here, has trialled well at Deagon and this class looks within her capabilities. From a good gate with Jim Orman she will get every chance.

WRITTLE (4) won an Ipswich Maiden when having his first start for Lindsay Hatch since coming North. He steps up in class and distance but Andrew Mallyon stays on and may have upside.

LEAVE ME ALONG (5) is resuming and showed promise last preparation winning his Maiden here over 1400m. Rob Heathcote can get them ready first-up and has built a strong association with Leah Kilner. This class suits and whilst he might need longer can hit the line.

HOT ESCORT (2) showed promise at his first preparation and will have benefited from a recent trial. His only win came on a heavy track and he may get conditions to suit here.

Betting Strategy- Not much between a few and I will stay out.

Race 4- Three-Year-Old Fillies Maiden Plate 1200m

Rob Heathcote and Leah Kilner combine on CHAMPAGNE POP (2) which has given them a start at both outings but finished off well. This extra distance will suit and she could overwhelm them late.

CAPITAL MISS (1) was fractious on debut but not disgraced and has had three trials at the Gold Coast since. Jaden Lloyd has got to know her and if he can keep the filly settled will be in the finish.

DAMIANI (4) found the Toowoomba Guineas beyond him last start but her previous form was sound and this shorter trip will suit. Blinkers go back on and she will get every chance with Baylee Nothdurft.

ROSE OF DUPORTH (11) is a nine-start maiden but has only just missed at her past two outings. She steps up in trip and whilst she has had her chances will be near the money again.

Betting Strategy- CHAMPAGNE POP (2) will be hard to hold out and will carry mine.

Race 5- Three-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Maiden Plate 1200m

John Moore has rung the gear changes with winkers and tongue tie going on DATA PATCH (7) was well supported at debut and despite racing ungenerously managed to place. He has since been gelded and has benefited from two recent trials. Jaden Lloyd is riding winners for fun and can get the job done,

BAD EDUCATION (2) has placed at both outings and Rob Heathcote has put Ryan Maloney back on. He will appreciate a good gate and gets his chance to break through.

BOLD HALO (3) only just missed at debut and beat BAD EDUCATION home. The wide gate may test but Ryan Wiggins likes to go forward and he could give a sight.

VANTAN EXPRESS (12) showed some promise at his first preparation and has been gelded. He has had two quiet trials, pacifiers go on and could show up fresh.

Betting Strategy- Another race full of unknowns but I have a liking for DATA PATCH (7).

Race 6- Maiden Plate 1400m

Looking for those with the least convictions that can run the trip.

I PONDER (2) has a horrendous gate but scratchings may help and his breeding suggests the further the better. He debuted well to place at Ipswich making good ground near the rail and will appreciate this bigger track. Jaden Lloyd is in fine form and on his home track the So You Think gelding will be strong late.

I AM WINKLES (9) was only run down late here over 1600m last start. This shorter distance will suit and Sean Cormack could dictate proceedings.

ENTERPRISE MIA (8) is resuming after a bleeding attack and did nothing at a recent trial. At her last outing here when she bled she was only narrowly beaten over this trip. With Zac Lloyd’s 3kg claim she has the speed to overcome the wide gate.

PETRILLO (5) is resuming after being gelded and won a recent trial. This trip will suit and Stuart Kendrick has a strong association with Jim Orman. Watch for support.

RAGING WATER (6) is had 11 starts for four placings but they were in Victoria and he may find Queensland more to his liking. He hasn’t been far away at all five outings this preparation and the big track and soft going should suit.

GYPSY GODDESS (14) has had three moderate trials but any David Vandyke runner on a Sunday is deserving of consideration. Blinkers go on for debut and she will get every chance with Kyle Wilson-Taylor.

Betting Strategy- Will wait for scratchings but keen on I PONDER (2).

Race 7- Class 2 Handicap 1800m

None of these win out of turn and tempo will play a big part with most of the main chances being backmarkers.

TRAVOLI (5) has been knocking on the door at three outings since resuming and gets up to his winning trip. He finished fourth beaten two lengths by WINSTON BLUE (2) last start but drops 3kg and could turn the tables over this longer trip.

SHY GIRL (4) placed behind WINSTON BLUE at her first start for eight weeks since coming North to join Jack Duncan’s stable. She will improve on that, drops 2.5kg and will appreciate a strong rider in Anthony Allen.

IRISH ACE (6) has been up a while but came from a long way back to place at Ipswich last start over 1700m and will appreciate this longer trip on a bigger track. She will need the right tempo but this is her home ground and Jaden Lloyd will have her running on.

JUST A PATSY (3) only battled in a Class 3 last start but this is easier and with Marnu Potgeiter could go forward, set a tempo and be hard to pass.

Betting Strategy- TRAVOLI (5) gets to the right race but I doubt his will-to-win

Race 8- Benchmark 58 Handicap 1400m

Natalie McCall rarely fails to make her presence felt at these meetings and fitter for two outings REDSTONE (2) gets conditions to suit here. He wasn’t far away in a Benchmark 62 last start over this trip and with Leah Kilner’s 1.5kg claim draws to do no work. He is unbeaten at two outings on a heavy track and his chances will only improve with rain.

TOROWOTO (12) was ridden forward last start and weakened over the final stages. He drops back in trip and will get all favours with Tiff Broker from an inside gate.

JOY’S REWARD (16) got a long way back and was never sighted last start here. She won over this trip in a higher grade three starts back here and can improve with a more positive ride from Michael Cahill.

LEXINGTON LAD (17) has done a good job since coming North winning twice at Gatton over this trip from four outings. He resumes from a spell on his home track, is suited in this class and with Zac Lloyd claiming 3kg can show up fresh.

Betting Strategy- REDSTONE (2) has found the right race and should get track conditions to suit.

Quaddie numbers are:

Race 5: 2,3,7

Race 6: 2,5,8,9

Race 7: 4,5,6

Race 8: 2,12
