Fremantle Dockers injury update: Michael Walters, Josh Treacy, Nathan O’Driscoll, Darcy Tucker, Jye Amiss

Fremantle key forward Josh Treacy could be available for selection as early as this weekend after making a swift recovery from an ankle injury.

The Dockers initially thought the issue, sustained in the WAFL on June 18, was a serious one but things have progressed well since.

Veteran Michael Walters (calf) is also a chance to return against Port Adelaide at Optus Stadium on Sunday, if not the following week.

“Josh is recovering from that ankle injury that he sustained a couple of weeks ago,” Fremantle footy boss Peter Bell told the club website. “He’s steadily ticking the boxes and we’ll see how he progresses during the week.

“We’ll see how Michael goes through the week and make a call as to whether he’s available this week.

“If he’s not available, we’re confident he’ll play the week after.”

Defender Heath Chapman is still another week away from coming back from a hamstring injury, while fellow young gun Nathan O’Driscoll has made a significant step in his foot rehabilitation.

Scans have cleared O’Driscoll to return to running, with his footy timeframe around 2-3 weeks.

“This time last week, we were waiting on another scan result. That scan has been really positive, so Nathan’s been cleared to progress to on-field running,” Bell said.

“We’ll steadily build him up and, hopefully, there’ll be no speed bumps along the way.

“Heath is going well. More than likely he will miss this week, although we haven’t decided on that 100 per cent yet. He’s not far away, either.”

Bell also confirmed The West Australian’s story that midfielder Darcy Tucker sustained a fracture in his right hand in the WAFL on Saturday and would require surgery.

“He’s been a bit unlucky, Darcy, he’s sustained a finger fracture that will require surgery,” Bell said.

“He’ll get that done and a timeframe will be advised post-surgery.”
