Chris Paul has learned to pace himself over the years, paying attention to his 36-year-old body as he navigates the 30-35 minutes per night he usually spends on the floor for the Phoenix Suns.

There's a disclaimer, though: That pacing doesn't apply to the final minutes.

"The fourth quarter ... that's when the game gets exciting," Paul said.

Paul had a few clutch plays late in the fourth and finished with 21 points and 10 assists, Jae Crowder added a season-high 19 points and the Suns held off the San Antonio Spurs for a 108-104 win on Monday night.

Phoenix were playing their first game since having a franchise-record 18-game winning streak snapped by the Golden State Warriors.

The Suns (20-4) didn't appear fazed by the setback, becoming the first team to hit 20 wins this season.

The Warriors (20-4) joined them about an hour later after a 126-95 win against the Orlando Magic in San Francisco, where Stephen Curry had 31 points and Andrew Wiggins made a career-high eight triples on the way to 28 points.

In Milwaukee, two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 27 points on his 27th birthday to help the Milwaukee Bucks defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers 112-104.

Antetokounmpo also had 12 rebounds in his return from a sore right calf as the Bucks (16-9) won for the 10th time in 11 games.

"Guys are playing with confidence, playing together," said Antetokounmpo.

"We're in a very, very good spot right now."

Joel Embiid enjoyed a season-high 43 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists, and the Philadelphia 76ers held off the Charlotte Hornets 127-124 after overtime.

Embiid had six of Philadelphia's eight points in OT and assisted on the other score.

"Sometimes I make mistakes, but I feel like I'm getting better and better in those situations. I just made the right plays and made some shots," Embiid said.

Australia's Josh Giddey enjoyed just a seventh win in his debut NBA season in the battle between teams that entered with eight-game losing streaks.

Shea Gilgeous-Alexander had 30 points and 13 assists, Luguentz Dort scored 28 points and the Oklahoma City Thunder overcame a 16-point deficit to defeat the Detroit Pistons 114-103.

"We didn't focus on how far behind we were, we just tried to win the next possession," OKC's Gilgeous-Alexander said.

Giddey chipped in with 12 points, five assists and a steal.

The Chicago Bulls enjoyed a 109-97 home win over the Denver Nuggets while the Portland Trail Blazers lost 102-90 to the visiting Los Angeles Clippers.

Elsewhere, the Atlanta Hawks beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 121-110, the Indiana Pacers were 116-100 winners over the Washington Wizards, and the Memphis Grizzlies won 105-90 at the Miami Heat.
