Young Fremantle stars Andrew Brayshaw and Adam Cerra have signalled they are set to lead the club’s midfield into their new era with a sensational display during their win over Hawthorn.

The Dockers won 7.6 (48) to 4.8 (32) and the high profile draft picks from 2017 starred.

Brayshaw continued his impressive season with a career-high 33 disposals while Cerra collected a season-high 26 possessions.

The Dockers famously selected them with picks two and five in 2017 and they have taken huge steps amid added responsibility this season.

Cerra played his 50th game last week and Brayshaw will reach the milestone this weekend. With new coach Justin Longmuir determined to hand them opportunities and Nat Fyfe happy to spend more time forward, the pair’s ball winning ability and skill stood out.

“It’s reward for effort for those two,” Lomgmuir said.

“They’ve worked their backsides off to improve their game and they’re bearing the fruit of that. Their attitudes to putting in all they’ve got to every session they do to get better and improve their game, tonight is a bi-product of that.

“We are starting to see Cerra’s composure, his ability to hit targets that others can’t hit and Andy is just playing to his strengths with his in-and-under, inside and out. They’re both going really well.

“They’re still young in terms of age, but I love their maturity in terms of the people they are on the field but off the field as well. They both had good nights.”

The win followed last week’s impressive victory over Collingwood and they will enter Saturday’s game against Carlton at Optus Stadium full of confidence.

Travis Colyer injured his hamstring while Connor Blakely was troubled by his right shoulder after being tackled by Ben McEvoy late in the third quarter.

But Fremantle will be strengthened by Michael Walters’ return this week and Jesse Hogan could also play after being given opportunities in defence during a reserves practice match.

The Dockers controlled the game by amassing 386 disposals, almost 100 more than their season average.

Longmuir said the players still over used the ball but it was a better indication of how he wanted Fremantle to play.

“I think we’re using the ball pretty well but we don’t talk a lot about what to do with the ball,” he explained.

“We talk a lot about providing good options for the ball carrier off the ball. I think we’re doing that a lot better so the ball carrier has actually got clear options he can go to.

“We tried to hold our forward structure a bit more which gave us someone to go to under pressure. Against Geelong we lost our forward structure so we’ve worked hard on that for the last couple of weeks.”
