Gladys Berejiklian has spoken publicly for the first time since she resigned as NSW Premier, revealing the contents of a private note she left for her former colleagues.

Ms Berejiklian emerged from her electorate office in Sydney’s Willoughby suburb on Wednesday morning to pick up flowers that had been left there by supporters.

She told reporters at the scene she was thankful for the support and that she would read every letter she had received from voters.

“I just want everybody to know I will read every single card and every single message,” she said.

Ms Berejiklian shocked colleagues and the public on Friday when she announced she was resigning as premier as the result of an anti-corruption investigation.

Her resignation prompted a weekend of intense backroom wrangling that ended with her former treasurer Dominic Perrottet amassing enough support from other Liberal MPs to be voted premier.

Mr Perrottet told reporters on Tuesday that he had received a message from Ms Berejiklian that he read to the other Liberals at a private meeting.

“She messaged me yesterday and wished me well and also to pass on a message to the party room, which I did,” Mr Perrottet said.

Ms Berejiklian on Wednesday revealed what she said in the message.

“I just wanted to say thank you to everybody for the support they’ve showed me, it’s very comforting,” she said.

“And I just want everybody to get behind the new premier, Premier Perrottet, and the NSW government in this important time.

“He will be an outstanding leader in this important time.”
