Osborne Park fire sale: Perth residents Marco D’Aquino opens up warehouse to public for Christmas clearance
A Facebook marketplace listing for a clearance sale has Perth locals in a frenzy, with hundreds rushing to Osborne Park to pick up all the furniture and gear they want in time for Christmas — free of charge.
The listing was posted by Marco D’Aquino — a generous local doing his best Saint Nicholas impression — who opened his warehouse full of second-hand goods up to the public, allowing people to pick up furniture or used goods at no cost.
The $0 ad encouraged people to “Come and grab what you need... Everything needs to go by Thursday, come and collect with trailer or a truck”.
Owner of rubbish removal business 1-800-GOTJUNK, Perth resident Mr D’Aquino said he needed to get rid of excess stock and figured holiday season is the perfect time to give back.
“We have a workshop in Osborne Park, a warehouse full of goodies and we decided to give it away to people for Christmas,” Mr D’Aquino told PerthNow.
“Christmas (is) a tough time at the moment, but we have a lot of furniture that we have the luxury to collect from people... so thought why not give it away for free.”
The warehouse is not just a pile of used garbage, D’Aquino and his team work tirelessly on turning trash into treasure - spawning their second venture Reused or Recycled Perth.
“We have a team of people that collect unwanted items... instead of going to landfill, we try to give a second chance and try to repurpose a lot of items that we collect,” the Perth businessman said.
“Initially we had just a small operation... but we decided to set this up as a second business, people like the idea to come here for a wonder, always find some good treasure.
“Once we collected a human skeleton, that was interesting.”
For a listing that seemed to good to be true, hundreds have flocked to the warehouse to grab what they can, with crowd numbers far exceeding expectations.
“It’s been very successful... I was expecting maybe 50 to 100 people, but I have counted more than 600 people,” he said.
“It’s fantastic because I can see a lot of people really need some (of this) stuff.”
Arianne Canas, 18, was in the hunt to furnish her new digs after recently moving out of home and said this marketplace listing came at the perfect time.
“I thought it was really cool because you don’t see this happen much in Perth, so I thought why not come down and get some stuff in my apartment,” she told PerthNow.
“I found a lamp I really wanted, I was dying for this lamp... found small things, some basic household stuff but it’s really useful.”
The clearance sale is still ongoing, with nearby residents encouraged to visit 1 Baden Street on Wednesday and Thursday between 10am-7pm.
