Maddington: House fire on corner of Westfield Street and Pitchford Avenue as smoke warning in place
A family of five have been taken to hospital and a dog is unaccounted for after a Maddington home went up in flames.
Firefighters warned of possibly dangerous smoke blowing towards Albany Highway after the property caught fire near the intersection of Westfield Street and Pitchford Avenue around 4.30am on Wednesday.
A police spokeswoman said arson squad officers were investigating the cause of the fire, which was undetermined on Wednesday morning.
It is understood a family of five — two adults aged in their 20s and three children — were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.
Their injuries were not life threatening and they were taken hospital as a precaution.
Is is understood two dogs from the home were located but that one remains missing.
The blaze was extinguished and the smoke alert was removed by 8.30am.
“A fire in a residential property is resulting in potentially dangerous smoke being blown south easterly towards Albany Highway,” the initial smoke warning said.
“There is no direct threat to lives or homes.
“As a precautionary measure, people in the area should remain inside, out of the smoke or fumes, with doors and windows closed. Air conditioners should also be switched off.”
