City to Surf Perth: 24,000 participate in annual fun run, raising almost $400,000 for Activ by 12pm

A stampede of people hit the ground running for the iconic Chevron City to Surf fun run on Sunday, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for those living with disabilities. Marking 50 years since the first event, 24,000 young and old, either ran, walked or rolled, raising nearly $400,000 for Activ by 12pm. Runners finished up with a party atmosphere at the City Beach Oval, with live music, free rides and treats, meet and greets with Channel 7 personalities, the Nova Supernovas, food trucks and hospitality tents. “There definitely was a celebratory vibe from start to finish today – everyone was raring to go, there was lots of fun on the course, a great show of support between fellow participants, and plenty of laughter along the way,” Activ Chief Executive Officer Clare Amies said. “The Chevron City to Surf for Activ is the biggest fundraiser for Activ Foundation, with all funds raised going directly into improving the lives of West Australians living with disability. “We have already earmarked the funds raised to revamp two of our specialist disability homes in WA, which will create more open and connected lifestyles for the customers who live there – we can’t wait to take you on the journey of these makeovers to show you exactly how your involvement is improving lives.” The male and female winners of the 4km track were Max Shervington with a time of 11:58 and Amy Buckingham with a time of 13.50. Eric Morley-Smith took out the first place for participants in wheelchairs with a time of 31:36. The 12km track winners were Dan Canala at 37:59 minutes, Kate Baker at 44:54 and wheelchair winner Dennis Devereaux at 1:09:06.
