Local governments invited to submit new housing proposals to State Government

The State Government is calling for submissions from local governments to bolster the supply and diversity of social and affordable housing and key worker accommodation across Western Australia. This new call for submissions is open to all WA local governments to work with the State Government to deliver social housing, affordable rental housing, and key worker and service worker accommodation. The can include capital grant funding, land leases or land contributions, while the State Government is also open to exploring other innovative funding models and partnerships. Earlier this year, the State Government announced $50 million in grants available under a call for submissions process for registered community housing providers to help increase the supply and diversity of new and refurbished social housing projects in regional WA. Eligibility for the $50 million grant funding has now been expanded to regional local governments. Local government minister Hannah Beazley said the responsibility for supplying affordable housing needs to be shared across all levels of government. “All tiers of government — whether it be Federal, State or local — have a role to play in boosting housing supply,” she said. “This process is intended to foster collaboration and partnerships between local governments and the State Government, and I encourage local governments across the State to register their interest for this opportunity.”
