Forrest MHR and Liberal Party candidate Nola Marino has reaffirmed her commitment to improve network connectivity across the South West, days away from the Federal election.

Last month Mrs Marino announced funding under round two of the Regional Connectivity Program for new fixed wireless sites, which would include upgrades to existing sites to improve broadband services in the region.

“The Mobile Black Spot Program is an initiative of our government which has delivered extensive extra mobile coverage in the South West with new mobile towers,” Mrs Marino said.

“Seven of these base stations have received funding under the Mobile Network Hardening Program to receive at least 12 hours back-up power.”

Mrs Marino said more provisions had been earmarked to strengthen telecommunications in the South West through the $811.8 million Connecting Regional Australia program.

“The CRA program is the centrepiece of the Federal Government’s response to the 2021 Regional Telecommunications Review, with $1.3 billion committed to telecommunications upgrades and policy and regulatory initiatives to benefit regional, rural, remote and peri-urban communities, like the South West,” she said.

“The second part of the response to the review is the grant of $480 million to NBN Co’s $750 million upgrade of its entire fixed wireless network, which will also benefit NBN Sky Muster users, helping to future-proof regional Australia.”
