South West community invited to deepen their connection to one of the region’s most significant waterways

The South West community is invited to deepen their understanding and connection to one of the region’s most significant waterways. This month the Leschenault Catchment Council is hosting a cultural heritage walk along the Collie River, Connecting with Country on the Collie, offering a unique opportunity for the community to explore the cultural history and spiritual significance of the Collie River. Led by a Noongar language specialist, attendees will get the chance to share in stories, ecological knowledge, language and the cultural heritage of the Noongar people. This event is delivered under the Leschenault Catchment Council’s community caring for the Collie River project. LCC project officer Jessica Forsyth said it was a significant opportunity for the community. “This cultural walk is a wonderful opportunity for the community to connect,” she said. “We hope through these types of events to deepen our understanding of the river’s history, helping us as a community to better care for it into the future.” The event takes place on April 11 at 9am at Soldiers Park in Collie with morning tea included.
