WA Police take an icy dip in Hillarys to raise money for the Special Olympics

Dozens of police officers took a plunge into the freezing winter water in Hillarys on Saturday in a bid to raise funds for the Special Olympics. There were no shortage of onlookers as the men and women in blue took part in the fourth annual Polar Plunge at Hillarys Boat Harbour as part of a national fundraising event — Law Enforcement Torch Run — to support Special Olympics Australia. Deputy Police Commissioner Allan Adams was one of the officers to brave the cold. The officers were joined by members of the public, including Joondalup mayor Albert Jacob, with many of them dressed in sea themed outfits — from pirates to jellyfish, and even a shark. The LETR WA team is made up of police officers and volunteers working together to champion acceptance and inclusion, while raising money to allow people with disability — particularly intellectual disabilities — to compete in the Special Olympics. The 2024 iteration of the Polar Plunge has already raised over $59,500, eclipsing its original goal of $35,000. WA Police has supported LETR-WA to raise over $130,000 for Special Olympics WA from the previous three Polar Plunges. “Through the LETR, WA Police contributes positively to the community to share the message of diversity and inclusion,” a WA Police spokesman said.
