Imports surge through Port Hedland port offsets December decline in Dampier

Pilbara port facilities recorded a six per cent increase in monthly throughput for December off the back of strong imports, which jumped 28 per cent in Port Hedland.

The Pilbara Ports Authority announced on Tuesday it had delivered a total monthly throughput of 68.5 million tonnes for December 2021, a six per cent increase on the previous year.

The Port of Port Hedland achieved a monthly throughput of 51.6Mt of which iron ore exports made up 50.8Mt.

This was a nine per cent increase to total throughput compared to the previous December.

Imports through the Port of Port Hedland jumped by 28 per cent compared to December 2020 with 210,000 tonnes recorded.

Meanwhile the Port of Dampier delivered a total throughput of 15.9Mt, a three per cent decrease from December 2020 and imports decreased by 18 per cent to 69,000 tonnes.
