There’s a clear split in North Pilbara Football League teams after round-five action over the weekend, with three teams vying for the top spot, and three for the wooden spoon.

Currently, the Karratha Kats, Wickham Wolves and Dampier Sharks are all equal on points with four wins and one loss each. The Karratha Falcon, Port Hedland Rovers and South Hedland Swans all sit at the bottom with one win and four losses each.

In the first game of the evening, the Karratha Falcons were destroyed by the Dampier sharks by almost 100 points, Falcons 4.4-28 to Sharks 18.15-123.

It was the win Sharks needed to stay hot on the heels of league leaders, with the team previously struggling to put up high point totals, meaning they sit in third place on percentages.

In the second game of the round, playing under the Saturday night lights in Port Hedland, the travelling Wickham Wolves were able to come out on top, despite a very close contest.

The Rovers accuracy in-front of goal was their downfall, with the team undoubtedly wishing some of their 13 behinds were on target.

The game finished Rovers 10.13-73 to Wolves 12.10-82, with Wickham managing to hold their second place ladder position with the win, while the Rovers slipped to fifth place.

In the final game of the round five action, top of the league Karratha Kats hosted the South Hedland Swans, with the Kats managed to pluck the Swans early and roast them throughout.

The game finished Kats 16.12-108 to Swans 6.2-38.

It’s a disappointing result for the Swans, who would’ve been hoping for an upset victory to jump-start their so-far dismal season.
