Narrogin face must-win clash in final round after Williams prove too classy in round six of the Upper Great Southern Football League

Narrogin Hawks face a must-win clash with Boddington this Sunday in their bid to play finals in the Upper Great Southern Football League. The Hawks slipped to fifth spot on the ladder after going down to Williams in round six last Sunday in Williams. Heading into the final round of the regular season, the Hawks sit on level points with the fourth-placed Eagles, with whom they will do battle to decide who gets the final spot in the top four. The visitors travelled to Williams in third place but the much-improved Cats sprang out of the blocks, booting six goals to one in the first term to open up a 33-point lead at the first change. However, the Hawks narrowly won the second term, kicking three goals to two to reduce the margin to 27 points by the long break. The Cats responded in the third term with four goals to stretch the margin back out to 35 points and open up a match-winning advantage going into the final term. The Hawks tried everything they could to prevent themselves from losing a second straight game and came home with a late flurry, booting three goals, but it wasn’t enough — the Cats won 12.8 (80) to 9.9 (63) to move one game clear in second spot. Kaden Elliot, Nathan Deblecourt, Ethan Bolton, Gavin Reynolds Alistair Smith and Perrin Quartermaine all battled hard for the Hawks to be named in the best players but they were unable to get back on the winners’ list after losing to Wickepin in round five. Blake Borrett kicked three goals in the loss and Nathan Ugle and Ryan Gray chipped in with two each. Stewart Walters and Lewis Davis booted four goals each in the win for the Cats as they were best served by Riley Cunningham, Isaac Christoforou, Cameron Stedman and Max Paterson, along with Davis and Walters in their fifth win of the season.
