Bizarre case of crash and naked man

A man allegedly crashed through a farmer’s property in a four-wheel-drive vehicle before he was found naked in a local cemetery in Pingaring. Lake Grace police allege the man was driving from Albany to Menzies along Commonwealth Road between 7pm on Sunday and 10am on Monday, when he turned east down Wyatt Road and into a private property. Police said they were not sure whether the man realised the road was a driveway, but he continued along the road for 500m before reaching the farm’s homestead. The man was travelling at speed and was unable to stop in time, police said. The driver allegedly smashed through four closed gates as he drove across the property for just over 3km. As the man left the property and got onto a dirt road, he allegedly lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree. Police said the man’s car deflected off the tree and caught fire in the surrounding bushland sometime between 7pm on Sunday and 10am on Monday. A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokes-woman said someone came across the burnt-out vehicle on Monday morning and called triple-0 about 10.20am. Lake Grace Sgt Travis Taylor said the man was found naked and dehydrated in Pingaring cemetery, about 1km away from the scene of the crash. An ambulance was sent to his aid. “Normally people drive on a road, not down someone's private driveway,” Sgt Taylor said. “We are asking why the driver decided to crash through a closed gate — not just once, but four times.” Police are investigating and asking for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestopperswa.com.au.
