Scores of Manjimup residents rolled up for WA at the pop-up vaccination clinic held on Saturday at the Manjimup Town Hall.

More than 100 adults and 33 children lined up to receive either their first, second or booster shot of the Pfizer vaccine.

WA Country Health Service COVID-19 lead Helen Van Gessel said it was “more important than ever” to get vaccinated considering two strains of the COVID-19 virus was not in the State.

“With COVID here in WA, including exposure sites in the South West, getting vaccinated is more important than ever,” she said.

Dr Van Gessel said vaccination was not only the best way to protect yourself against the highly contagious and sometimes fatal virus, it was the best way to protect those around you as well.

“We know that being fully vaccinated reduces the likelihood of catching COVID-19 and helps prevent severe COVID illness and hospitalisation so I’m pleased 140 people rolled up their sleeves in Manjimup on Saturday,” she said.

“COVID is here in WA and vaccination is the single most effective way we can protect ourselves, our loved ones and our community.”

Dr Van Gessel said the vaccination rate within the South West region was incredible, however there still needed to be a big push to get the double-vaccination rate as high as possible.

“Currently, 86.7 per cent of the South West population has done their part to keep us all healthy by becoming fully vaccinated but we can’t stop there – I implore anyone who hasn’t yet rolled up to not delay it any longer,” she said.

“You are eligible for your booster vaccination four months after your second dose. However, from 31 January 2022 eligibility for a COVID-19 booster vaccination will be reduced to three months after receiving your second dose.”
