VideoTwo division one winning entries have split the $40 million Oz Lotto jackpot, with a Hobart man and an unidentified Hervey Bay player each claiming $20 million.

Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s newest overnight Lotto millionaire owes it all to his partner’s “Honey, don’t forget Lotto” text, which reminded him to enter the draw with the same numbers he had been playing for decades.

Keeping his identity secret, the local man told Lotterywest he almost missed entering last Saturday’s draw, but the text from his partner — accompanied by a smiley face and blue heart emojis — reminded him to stop by Kalgoorlie Newsagency to fill out his favourite Payslip, which ultimately scored him the $1.5m division one prize.

“I’ve been playing the same numbers for 27 years and I would not have wanted to miss this draw,” he said.

“I thought it must have been a mistake, so I went to the nearest shop to check.

“Some of the lines are birthdays, others are just numbers that I chose randomly and kept playing.

“I’d been helping a friend with a job that afternoon and it would have been easy to miss the shops.”

The man shared his appreciation for the Goldfields region, where he met his partner, and said he now planned to travel and open his own business.

“Kalgoorlie has been really good to both of us. I moved there when I was a young fella and we met there when we worked together. I don’t feel like I would have won anywhere else,” the man said.

“We will throw in a trip to New Zealand now, then when we finish this trip, I’d like to start my own business,” he said.

The next chance to win big or support Lotterywest’s community grants program is this Saturday’s $20 million Superdraw.

Lotterywest spokesperson Jennie Fitzhardinge said it was thanks to regular players like this Kalgoorlie-Boulder man and his partner that Lotterywest could support regional communities.

“Hearing how important Kalgoorlie has been to this winning couple, it is good to know that we can support regional communities through grants such as $74,000 towards the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s Christmas Street Party and 2027 Multicultural Festival,” Ms Fitzhardinge said.
