Kelman, Leahy prime movers in Panthers’ big win

Judd Kelman and Kailen Leahy called on their senior experience to be among the prime movers in Railways’ decisive victory over Mines Rovers last weekend, 13.3 (81) to 3.7 (25), in the Goldfields Football League’s colts division.

Kelby Virgin joined them among the Panthers’ best, with the team’s bright start paving the way for a 23-point lead at half-time.

Railways ensured they finished strongly with a six-goal last term, with Daniel De Been leading the red-and-blacks’ forwards with four goals.

Leahy booted three and Jayden Robinson and Kelman two each as Railways moved into top spot.

The side’s three wins are matched by Mines Rovers and Boulder, but Railways lead the standings with a percentage of 242.96.

Jett Stevens, Andrew Manton and Keenan Forbes accounted for the Diorites’ goals, but the side was held to a behind in the final quarter.

Jaron Schmidt and Campbell Stevens were Mines Rovers’ best in a losing effort.

Boulder earned an easy four points in their match against Kambalda, who forfeited.

In round five reserves matches, Boulder beat Kambalda 11.9 (75) to 5.5 (35), with two goals each to Sebastian Wellstead and Shayden Smith.

Kambalda were within three points at quarter-time and 11 points at half-time, but were outscored five goals to one the rest of the way.

Aiden Anderson led the Eagles’ forwards with three goals and Simon Minus and Ryan Williams contributed one each.

In the other clash, Josh Lennox bagged three majors in Mines Rovers’ win over Railways, 14.11 (95) to 1.1 (7).

He was supported by Jake Littlewood, Mitch Graham and Lewis Johns, each with two goals.

Ben Grace accounted for Railways’ goal.

Mines Rovers (16 points) lead the standings by a game over Boulder (12), Kalgoorlie (8), Railways (4) and Kambalda (0).
