Imperials rally to upset first-placed Sonix 1 in Goldfields premier netball

Third-placed Imperials showed off their true capabilities by handing Sonix 1 their first loss of the season last weekend in the Eastern Goldfields Netball Association’s premier division.

After rattling off three wins to open 2022, Sonix 1 went in as favourites.

Imperials, however, had other ideas in an impressive 43-36 victory.

Despite the loss, Sonix 1 retain first place in the standings.

However, only percentage separates them from Rookies, who held on for a 42-40 win over Steelers last weekend.

Last-placed NVUS also earned a major confidence-booster after beating Mana by six goals, 40-34.

Round five will be played on Friday night when Steelers clash with Imperials and NVUS take on Sonix 1, both at 6.30pm.

Rookies 1 play Mana at 8pm.

In division 1, Rookies 2 and Mana 1 had 20-0 wins over Imperials 2 and Steelers 1 respectively and Sonix 3 were 51-32 victors over Sonix 2.

Saturday’s matches, all at noon, feature Sonix 2 against Mana 2, Mana 1 opposed to Rookies 2 and Steelers 1 against Sonix 3.

Sonix 1 6 points; Rookies 6; Imperials 4; Steelers 4; Mana 2; NVUS 2.

Division 1:

Sonix 3 6 points; Sonix 2 6; Mana 1 4; Rookies 2 4; Imperials 2 4; Steelers 1 0; Mana 2 0.

Under-18 division 1:

Sonix 6 8 points; Mana 4 4; Imperials 5 4; Steelers 0.
