Mincor Resources has been buoyed by an “emerging exploration opportunity” near its Cassini nickel mine but has stopped short of calling the new prospect a discovery.

Mincor on Friday revealed its most promising nickel hit yet at its Hartley prospect, 17km north-west of its Cassini mine. Renamed Hartley from what was previously called Location 1, the new name gives a nod to Mincor general manager of exploration Rob Hartley. Assays from recent drilling included a 4.5m intersection grading at 3.3 per cent nickel and a 1.4m intersection grading at 3 per cent nickel.

The cashed-up Andrew Forrest-backed emerging nickel producer, spearheading the reawakening of Kambalda’s nickel mines, first struck nickel at the prospect near Widgiemooltha last month. The company completed a $60 million capital raising earlier this month.

Mincor boss David Southam said the latest hits provided “strong evidence” there was “an exciting emerging exploration opportunity at the Hartley prospect”. “We have now intersected high-grade nickel sulphides, with width, over a 200m strike length,” he said. “While we are still at a relatively early stage in terms of our understanding of the primary architecture and geometry, the high-quality results bode extremely well for the future prospectivity of this area.”
