Tambellup’s Penny Squibb is fighting for a spot in the Hockeyroos national squad after taking part in Hockey Australia Super Camp that wrapped up on Monday at the Perth Hockey Stadium.

Squibb, pictured, is not a current member of the national squad but has played 10 games previously and scored a goal for her country.

The 27-year-old was part of a squad of 40 athletes who took part in the camp, which involved four intra-squad matches as they look to impress selectors and earn a national call-up.

Squibb was part of the camp with six fellow West Australian players.

The matches and camp will be a part of the selection process for next year’s Hockeyroos squad that will compete for a spot in Australia’s team for the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics.

Due to COVID-19 postponing this year’s FIH Pro League and Sultana Bran Hockey One League competition, the selection camp is a crucial part of the Hockeyroos build-up to the Olympic Games.

The 2021 Hockeyroos squad will be announced on December 1.
