KNA 2024: Kojonup book A1 grand final berth with big win over Te Taitonga, Broomehill smash Dumbleyung in A2
Kojonup 1 have advanced to the Katanning Netball Association A1 grand final against rivals Allstars 1 after outlasting a spirited Te Taitonga 1 in the preliminary final on Saturday.
Having been unable to beat Kojonup 1 throughout the season, Te Taitonga had to give it their all.
With a closer margin than ever between the two teams, Te Taitonga brought it back within a handful of goals in the last quarter.
However, Kojonup managed to up the ante in the last few minutes, taking the well-deserved 58-43 win.
A1 will see Allstars 1 play Kojonup 1 in the decider on Saturday at 2.30pm.
A2 saw top dogs Broomehill up against Dumbleyung, and after suffering their first loss of the season in the qualifying final, Broomehill put their foot down in the first quarter.
Still a fun and greatly contested game, Broomehill’s goals got them a crushing 83-35 win and into the grand final against Allstars 2 at 1pm.
In the A3, Kojonup 4 and Cardinals Phoenix ended the nailbiting quarters neck and neck the whole way through, but only one could push that little bit more to win.
Kojonup 4 found it in them and managed to lock themselves into a derby decider against their sister team at 1.15pm.
A huge buzz of excitement set in early on Saturday morning for the junior game.
Kojonup Sapphires were up against QFH Vixens, with both teams capable and wanting to get into the grand final.
For four quarters it was a mixture of emotions, with both teams battling it out the whole way.
However, it was the Kojonup Sapphires who managed to get the higher score, locking them into the big dance this Saturday against NAB Lightning.
KNA also held their second awards night on Saturday evening.
A great night brought clubs together to mingle and share the awards with one another.
This year KNA have been honoured to award somebody with a new award which is in honour of life member Isabel Bradbury who sadly passed away earlier this year.
The award is to highlight a junior volunteer who has been outstanding throughout the year in many ways with this year’s very first award winner going to Leah Edwards.
The A1 fairest and best went to Allstars’ Joedelle Bolton, and Nadine Milne was named runner-up
Cardinals’ Piper Kennedy won the A2 best and fairest, and Allstars young gun Lara Rodney was runner-up.
In the A3 competition, Emily Kennedy of Cardinals was named fairest and best, while Kojonup’s Amy Williams was runner-up.
The umpire of the year was awarded to Brittany Hanna and the Gail Butterworth volunteer of the year award went to Kelly Holzknecht.
