Katanning star Megan McKay helped Townsville Fire win their opening match of the 2020-21 Women’s Nation Basketball League competition last week.

The power forward was instrumental for her new club as they finished dominant 73-48 winners over Perth Lynx last week.

McKay knocked down nine points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished off two assists in just over 18 minutes playing time to get her Australian professional career off to a strong start.

However McKay and the Fire weren’t able to keep their perfect start to the season going on Monday against the UC Capitals.

The Fire were fifth in the eight-team competition heading into their clash with the Sydney Uni Flames.

The WNBL season is being played in a hub in North Queensland.

McKay is averaging 4.5 points, six rebounds and one assist per game to start the season.
