After two straight losses at home, the Geraldton Buccaneers will get a massive boost to their playing stocks with two huge inclusions this weekend as they head down to Perth for a double-header.

Returning import Josh Keyes and former Warwick Senator Cooper Creek wrapped up their European campaigns last weekend, and have made the journey back Down Under to commence their NBL1 seasons.

Keyes arrived for his third season as a Buccaneer on Sunday night, while Creek landed on Thursday.

With numbers restocked this weekend, the Buccs will aim to get their season back on track after a difficult period where their depth was tested.

“We’ll get a few players back and trying to mingle that together with the guys that have been here for a while,” coach Dayle Joseph said.

“We can start looking for a bit of continuity with the way we play, and probably see a bit more of our game style and a bit more of the Buccaneers basketball that we’re known for.”

Joseph confirmed team leading scorer Devondrick Walker will return to the side after pulling up sore and being managed last weekend.

He said all three inclusions should relieve pressure on the Buccs’ rotations, which were a key concern over the past fortnight.

“We’ll be able to swing things around a little bit, maybe give some guys a bit of a rest,” he said.

“The way we play is good enough. It’s just being able to do that consistently.

“When we have guys who have played 40 minutes non-stop, it made it difficult to be able to say we played at a high pace for a long period of time.

“We can rotate some guys around and keep that intensity high for a long period of time.”

The Buccs face two massive tasks this weekend, with ladder leaders Willetton awaiting them on Saturday night and fifth-placed East Perth on Sunday.

Joseph said he looked forward to this weekend, with both games shaping up to be intriguing match-ups.

“Willetton, we’ve got a pretty good rivalry,” he said.

“They’re well drilled and play a great style of basketball, a bit similar to ours in some ways. We always have a pretty tough contest with them.

“East Perth are a little bit unknown. They got some new players in some Wildcats players and a couple of imports. Their local depth makes them very strong as well.

“We’re hoping we can catch them after our game on Saturday and back it up on Sunday.”
