Nominate ‘local legends’ for Aussie Day awards

Nominations have opened for the Australia Day Community Citizen of the Year Awards, which recognise “quiet achievers” who have made the community a great place to live.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said no deed was too big or small to be considered for the awards.

“We have many local legends who go about their business seeking no acknowledgement or reward,” he said.

“From the people who are out picking up rubbish every weekend to those who are raising funds for those in need.

“Now is the time to thank them for their efforts and all that they do in our community. It only takes a few minutes to nominate and could change someone’s life.”

Award categories include community citizen of the year, youth community citizen of the year (for 25-year-olds and younger), senior community citizen of the year (for 65-year-olds and over), active citizenship for a community group or event, and the City of Greater Geraldton young achiever of the year — open to 18-year-olds and under.

Nominations close on December 7.

Winners will be announced during Australia Day celebrations on January 26.
