Essendon legend Dustin Fletcher’s second son joins huge US college as a punter

Essendon legend Dustin Fletcher now has two sons potentially on a path to the NFL after his youngest son Max signed on as a punter for the University of Arkansas.

The Bombers may have lost out on two potential father-son selections with Max joining his brother Mason, who has been starring in his first season punting for the undefeated Cincinnati Bearcats, in the college ranks.

Both Fletchers have come through the Prokick Australia system that has now has sent more than 185 players to play Division 1 college football, including Seattle Seahawk and pro bowler Michael Dickson.

“I am extremely honoured and excited to announce that I have accepted a full scholarship to study and play football at the University of Arkansas,” the latest Fletcher to head to the US posted on Twitter.

His brother is now eagerly awaiting Max’s arrival.

“Congrats to my little brother on his commitment to Arkansas!!! Enjoy all that comes your way, it’s not easy but it’s worth all the hard work you’ve put in. So proud of you, love you mate,” he posted on Twitter.

Dustin Fletcher was a star for the Bombers where he is the club’s games record holder having played 400 games over more than 20 seasons. He was also a two-time premiership player, All-Australian and club best and fairest.

“Congratulations to the young fella,” he wrote on Instagram. “Chasing his dreams in the SEC with the Arkansas Razorbacks. Show him some support. Big journey ahead.”

Mason Fletcher decided to chase an NFL career because he lost his love for footy after missing out at the 2019 draft because of injury.

There are five Australian punters in the NFL, including Seattle superstar Dickson, Mitch Wishnowsky at the San Francisco 49ers and former St Kilda forward Arryn Siposs, who is in his first year with the Philadelphia Eagles.
