Young voices took centre stage at a youth forum where students from across Broome gathered to discuss issues affecting young people in their community.

The Shire of Broome’s two-day event, held at the civic centre on March 9 and 10, brought together students aged 12 to 18 from Broome Senior High School, St Mary’s College and St Martin’s De Porres School, providing a platform for them to share ideas, take part in leadership workshops and connect with local organisations and community leaders.

Students, facilitators and community representatives met to discuss leadership, community involvement and the future of youth engagement in Broome.

Members of the community also attended to speak with the students, including representatives from local police, Jobs Pathways, KAMS and Circle Volunteering.

The forum featured leadership workshops, discussions on local issues and opportunities for students to speak directly with community leaders about their concerns and aspirations.

Shire of Broome president Chris Mitchell said the perspective of young people mattered and made an impact on how the town operated.

“This is a great opportunity to chat about the stuff that really affects young people, listen to others in the community, and find out just how many exciting pathways are out there for you,” he said.

“Your voice matters beyond today, the shire’s youth advisory council is always looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives.”

The forum aims to empower young people to share their views while strengthening connections between youth and community organisations.
