Vancouver Arts Centre puts call out to region’s artists to run creative workshops for seniors

The Vancouver Arts Centre is seeking artists to facilitate a series of arts workshops at an aged care facility in a bid to improve the health and wellbeing of residents.

As part of the City of Albany’s Active Ageing Program, and funded through the Brandenburg Fund, the VAC is inviting artists to submit expressions of interest.

The project is aimed at members of the community over the age of 60, living in aged care or residential, respite and independent living facilities.

The workshops will happen on site.

With a fee of $2400, artists should have experience with community arts projects, demonstrated ability to facilitate the development of projects through engagement with students, time management skills and experience in aged care or similar environments.

Artists are invited to plan creative workshops that will suit the needs of the residents and increase their skill set, enjoyment and engagement with one another.

Research has demonstrated that active participation in the arts can have a significant positive impact on wellbeing, fostering confidence, new friendships and a sense of purpose.

All art forms will be considered including visual arts, music, dance and drama.

Artists will need to source and supply workshop materials.
