City of Albany deputy mayor Greg Stocks is expected to run No.2 on the Liberal Party’s ticket for the South West Region in the State’s Legislative Council at next year’s election.

The WA Liberal Party’s Twitter account congratulated Cr Stocks on being nominated on Saturday alongside three other nominees, including current South West MLC Steve Thomas.

It is understood Cr Stocks is likely to be endorsed on Saturday.

It would be Cr Stocks’ second run for a seat in State Parliament after he ran against veteran Labor MP Peter Watson and fellow Albany councillor Robert Sutton (Nationals WA) for the Lower House seat of Albany at the last State election.

The 2017 election was the first time the Liberals failed to gain more than one seat in the South West since the region’s inception in 1989.
