Rovers continued their perfect start to the men’s premier league competition after an upset win over reigning champions Polonia in round three of the Great Southern Soccer Association.

Both sides went into the clash with winning form and it was a tight tussle throughout the 90 minutes on Saturday afternoon.

Andrew Oboh was the hero in the second half, netting the only goal to help Rovers record a 1-0 win.

Two second-half goals from Phoenix helped them notch a second win for the season as they kept Caledonians winless thus far in the new competition.

Phoenix led 1-0 at half-time before outscoring their opponents in the second half to record a 3-1 win.

Lewis Bosch netted two goals while Jarrad Korthuis netted the other goal for Phoenix.

Kieran Loveridge was the sole goal scorer for Caledonians.

Denmark and Phoenix fought out a high-scoring game in the women’s premier league with the reigning league champions, Denmark, prevailing 4-3.

Both sides netted two goals in the first half and the scores were locked at 3-3 before a late Denmark winner handed them victory.

Laura McEwan, Abby Carter and Ebony Thompson all netted goals in the win and Lee Plug and Jacy Mostert scored for Phoenix while both sides conceded an own goal.

Caledonians and Polonia had a 1-1 draw with Stephanie Grant and Laura Hunt netting a goal for their respective teams in the other women’s premier league fixture.

In the men’s reserves competition, Polonia and Port Albany recorded 5-0 wins over Bayswater and Royals respectively.

Rovers snatched a narrow 3-2 win over Caledonians. Polonia and Royals played out a 2-2 draw in the women’s reserves competition.

Rovers recorded an emphatic 6-0 win over Grammar while Port Albany and Caledonians also had solid victories.

In the women’s social competition, Polonia and Grammar won their respective games. The men’s social-vets round, due to played on Tuesday night, was postponed.
