Phoenix and Denmark could not be separated in the Great Southern Soccer Association women’s league competition on Saturday, neither side able to find a match-winning goal after early conversions.

In a frantic opening to the round three contest at the North Road soccer grounds, both teams had scored inside the first 28 minutes.

Lumeah Masih broke the deadlock in the 15th minute but soon after it was cancelled out by Amaya Dobbe.

Dobbe levelled the scores in the 27th minute at 1-1 but neither team were able to find the back of the net again.

It wasn’t through lack of trying, both sides with their chances in the second half but they walked away with a draw and a point each.

The second placed Phoenix have seven points from the opening three games while Denmark are third on the standings with five points.

Rovers netted their first win of the women’s league with a 14-2 drubbing of Sharks.

Libby Morris did most of the damage, scoring seven goals while teammates Belle Groenwold and Georgia Whitelaw both chipped in with two.

Sharks were still in the contest at half-time, trailing 4-2, but the floodgates opened in the second 45 minutes.

Tully Robinson and Erinn Norder found the back of the net for the losing side.

Ladder leaders Caledonians won a high-scoring contest with Polonia in the other women’s top-flight game.

Caledonians bagged six goals in the opening half to put the contest beyond doubt and finished 10-4 winners at the final whistle.

Holly Froehnelt (four goals) and Milla Trichilo (three) led the way for Callies while Georgia Power scored twice for Polonia.

In the senior men’s competition on Saturday, Polonia and Phoenix were victorious.

Phoenix came from a goal down to prevail 2-1 over Caledonians, who opened the scoring via Chris Wallace.

Malcolm van Burgel and Samuel Bosch stood up however to hand Phoenix the points.

Polonia were 4-0 winners over Bayswater, one score coming from the penalty spot.

Kyle Taylor got his side up and running before Caelen Lambe converted a penalty six minutes later.

Escher Nash scored in the 29th and 35th minutes to seal the triumph.

In the men’s masters competition on May 21, Old Boys claimed a 12-0 win over Caledonians, Phoenix edged out Denmark 4-2 and Rovers Vets put nine goals past a scoreless Bayswater.

Polonia and Caledonians were the men’s reserves winners in round three, and in the men’s socials Polonia and Denmark had wins while Griffins and Cross Keys drew.

In the women’s reserves results, Caledonians got home 2-1 over Denmark Rezzies and Phoenix thumped Polonia 8-1.

In the women’s socials, Rovers, Bayswater, Mt Barker, Phoenix and Griffins claimed victories.
