The Albany Community Foundation have “regrettably” informed the public that this year’s Walk For Awareness has been cancelled.

The annual fundraising walk from Emu Point to Middleton Beach was set to take place on Sunday.

In a Facebook statement the ACF said they “regret to inform you that our Walk For Awareness has been cancelled”.

“The Board has made this difficult decision in conjunction with the Disabled Surfers Association due to circumstances out of our control,” the ACF said.

“The decision was not made lightly and we are disappointed to not be able to bring the community this event which was so well received last year.”

The event was set to raise funds and awareness for the Disabled Surfers Association Great Southern branch.

Participants could join in by walking, riding or scooting from Emu Point to Eyre Park.

Funds raised would have gone towards providing more surfboards, training and specialised equipment for DSA.

However ACF promised the community the circumstance was not all “doom and gloom”.

“We are now able to work on another community event which has been in the pipeline for some time and will take the place of the walk a little later in the year,” the ACF said.
