ANA 2024: Denmark power past Railways with strong shooting, Bullets hit top form in home court win over Bethel

Denmark Magpies moved a step closer to securing a top two spot and a vital double chance in finals after an emphatic 29-goal win on Saturday afternoon. The Magpies remain on top of the Albany Netball Association A1 ladder with three rounds left in the regular season, with a superior percentage over rivals Bullets 1. An electric 19-goal second term was the catalyst for the Magpies dominant win over Railways 1 in round 11 on Saturday, with shooters Brittany Finigan and Casey Greay in form. Just four goals separated the two sides at quarter-time, with Tayeesha Weeden and Reagan Warren working hard in mid-court for Railways. But Finigan was brilliant in the second term and ably assisted by Greay, as centre Ashlee Kerr and wing attack Mia Dominiak fed the ball constantly into the circle. The Magpies outscored their rivals by eight goals to set the foundation for their 10th win of the season. It was a clinical second half from the top side, as they netted 31 goals on their way to a convincing 65-36 result. The Magpies defence of Lauren Bracewell and Amy Dominiak were superb in the final term, keeping Railways to only five goals while Kerr worked tirelessly at centre across the four quarters. Bullets played a home fixture in Mt Barker and they were on fire in familiar surrounds, thumping Bethel 1 by 68 goals. It was a first-half onslaught from Bullets as they scored 21 goals to lead by 19 at quarter time and added 24 in the second to hold a massive 42-goal buffer at half-time. From there Bullets cruised to victory 83-15 with Bethel’s best period of the game coming in the fourth term as they netted nine goals. The win has Bullets locked on 20 points with the Magpies, that pair two wins clear of the third-placed Royals Saints 1. Royals Saints trailed at quarter-time in their clash with Narrikup 1 but turned the tables with a brilliant second term, on their way to a 15-goal victory. Summer Stirling and Jazelle Foggin led the way in attack as the Saints hit 19 goals in the second term and conceded just nine at the other end. The 49-64 loss has Narrikup still sitting fourth on the ladder but within striking distance for fifth placed Kangas 1. Kangas kept their finals hopes alive with a 21-goal win over Griffins 1 in the other A1 match. Griffins could only manage three goals in a dismal third term as Kangas bounded to a 45-24 victory and are two wins outside the top four.
