An Albany lotto regular and “Aussie battler” has become an instant millionaire after winning a division one Wednesday Lotto draw.

It is the second time in five months that Albany’s Brooks Garden News has sold a division one winning ticket after selling a winner worth $852,722 in May.

Brooks Garden News co-owner Liz Castieau said the Albany woman came in to claim the ticket on Thursday afternoon.

“She is a local, she is a regular and she is an absolutely lovely lady,” she said.

“A real hard worker, an Aussie battler. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer person.

“It went to a lovely Albany couple and we were just super happy for her.”

Ms Castieau said watching the customer check her ticket “brought tears to our eyes”.

“She obviously knew she had a winner because she came in and she said, ‘you might want to check this’. I looked at it under the machine and it came up that it was a provisional winner,” she said.

“She just got so excited, she couldn’t contain herself and she was just bouncing all over the place.

“And it just so happened that she doesn’t normally play Wednesday lotto and one of our staff had talked her into it the day before. She was just so grateful. It is really going to change their lives.”

The Albany woman was one of three division one winners from across the country and the only one in WA for last week’s Wednesday Lotto draw.

There were 13 division two winners, including two in WA, set to receive $5702.50 each.

The winning numbers were 14, 43, 41, 9, 21, 31, (3), (22).
