Bondi Beach has been emptied out after a shark was spotted in the waters, sending swimmers scrambling a day after chilling footage emerged of a great white shark swimming out the back of the same popular spot.
The shark was spotted via a drone swimming through the northern region of Bondi Beach shortly before 7am on Wednesday.
The beach could be seen clearing out in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Footage shared by Surfing World Magazine showed the empty waters as passers-by continued their morning jog and routines.
“It’s wild to see Sydney’s most populous beach empty with a fun little swell in the water,” the video caption read.

Bondi Beach has since been closed,a Waverley Council spokesman told NewsWire.
The beach will reopen once it has been deemed safe.
SharkSmart NSW confirmed the shark sighting on Wednesday morning.
“Bondi Beach lifeguards advise that Bondi Beach is currently closed due to shark sighting,” a statement read.
The shark sighting was also reported by Dorsal Watch, though it was unable to confirm the species of shark or its length.

A loud alarm rang out across the beach, with swimmers and surfers scurrying out of the water and lifesavers rushing to get others to safety.
Sunrise reports there was a large bait ball in the northern part of the beach, which attracted the great white shark.
The fresh warning comes 11 days after a mum was mauled at a nearby beach.

Drone Shark App posted the footage to social media on Tuesday, warning people salmon were gathering along the iconic beach when the shark emerged soon after.
“At first, I wasn’t completely certain, but I was about 90 per cent sure it was a white shark,” the post stated.
“After reviewing the 4K footage, that identification was confirmed.
“The lifeguards did a great job responding quickly and sounding the alarm to help keep everyone safe.”
The shark was filmed 11 days after Sydney mum Leah Stewart was attacked at Coogee Beach suffering catastrophic injuries.
Her family issued a statement on Monday saying she remained hospitalised in a critical but stable condition after having her arm amputated.

“There is a long road ahead for her and her family,” the statement read.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by her brother, Joshua Stewart, has raised more than $487,000.
The primary school teacher and devoted mum continues to be treated at St Vincent’s Hospital, having undergone “extensive surgery”.
