Ballerina Indiana Scott aims to work towards developing herself as an artist

Indiana Scott’s job with the West Australian Ballet is a dream come true. THE JOB I am a Young Artist with West Australian Ballet for their 2023 Season. My role is to grow and develop while performing with the ballet company professionally. THE PATH I became passionate about dance through musical theatre and in my mid-teens. In 2019 I left Perth and began serious ballet training after being accepted into The Australian Ballet School in Melbourne, in the pursuit of a career as a professional ballet dancer. Upon graduating at the end of 2022, I auditioned through a ballet class with West Australian Ballet’s Artistic Director, Aurelien Scannella, for a job, and was successful. THE GOOD I love the hard work that ballet demands and enjoy expressing emotion through movement and musicality. Having the opportunity to do this daily as a job and perform onstage in such a professional environment, while alongside inspiring and creative people is a dream come true. THE BAD Mental and physical challenges do play a part in the daily routine of professional artists and athletes. Physically exerting as much as we do, it’s important to manage the body’s load and recovery in order to avoid injuries. The high expectations we put on ourselves can be mentally taxing, making it so important to reflect on our strengths. THE FUTURE I’d love to continue growing in my experience as a professional dancer and work towards developing myself as an artist, deepening my understanding of what I want to convey through my art form. I’m optimistic about what the future holds for me and other aspiring young dancers, nationally and internationally.
