Narrogin eight-ball teams command to land A-grade and B-grade wins in Great Southern Classic

The Great Southern Classic came to a close at the Katanning Pool Hall at the weekend with Narrogin 1 winning both the A-grade and B-grade eight-ball competition.

In the A-grade comp Narrogin 1’s Mark Gooley, Scott Cochrane, David Shanks and Adam Symonds claimed victory on 24 points while B-grade honours went to Narrogin 1’s Stuart Budd, Charlie Hoskin, Jake Hiscock and Rodney Johnson on 23, one point ahead of joint runners-up Narrogin 2 and Katanning 1.

Things got under way on May 3 with a great evening of action at the ‘Dutch’ doubles.

Plate winners were Kim Michaels and Amber Chilton, with Adam Symonds and Alan Arnolds finishing a close second.

Alby Michaels and Ben Smid claimed the doubles major ahead of runners-up Mark Gooley and Stuart Budd.

The final round of the Great Southern Classic kicked off on May 4 with Katanning, Albany and Narrogin fielding two teams each across both grades.

In the A-grade division, Albany took out the venue win on a solid 10 points, followed by Narrogin 1 on 8 points.

Albany’s Ken Skinner and Narrogin’s Mark Gooley finished on 75 per cent and Katanning’s Kim Michael and Aaron Parnell both finished with a percentage of 55.

In B-grade, Katanning 1 and Narrogin 1 shared the venue win on nine points each and Narrogin 2 were runners-up.

Kade Maley finished on 80 per cent for Narrogin, Katanning’s Ben Smid came in with a percentage of 75 and best for Albany on 70 per cent was Bev Mableson.

The A-grade singles winner was Ken Skinner on 72 per cent with the B-grade taken out by Stephen Webb on 73 per cent.
